Welcome! My name is Chelsea and I am delighted that you stopped by!
I am a music teacher born and raised in Cape Town. Having been a part of a musical family, my love for music was developed from a very young age. At school things got serious! With the support of excellent teachers I prepared for UNISA and ABRSM examinations for both piano and flute. I performed regularly with the Cape Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble and was a member of various choirs. It became abundantly clear that teaching music was the career for me. I studied at the South African College of Music (UCT) and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education degree, specializing in flute and piano. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to work with world renown lecturers Francois Du Toit and Gabriele Von Durkheim amongst others. They inspired in me the true art of practice, performance and professionalism, and of course, not forgetting that music is a beautiful expression of the soul.
My teaching journey of more than 10 years includes: tutoring Aural at UCT, piano teaching at a music academy and offering lessons and exam coaching to music students within the homeschooling community and the public and private education sectors.
My slogan “Let’s Play” is born out of my belief that learning does not have to be burdensome - rather, that developing a new skill can be an enjoyable and fulfilling journey. One must remember that musical progress can be determined through examinations OR development of musicality - this can work independently or symbiotically. Having your lesson tailored to suit your particular music goals will result in a more pleasurable experience especially if you are playing a genre of music you enjoy. I am a facilitator - the music student determines the pace.
